Story

Hopsters is the vision of local husband-and-wife (and craft beer-lovers) Lee and Karen Cooper, coming to life.

Growing up in Liverpool, England, Lee was no stranger to good beer. When he came to the US in 1996, he missed the cask ales and other beer varieties he’d known and loved in the UK. Eventually, he began brewing his own beer at home, and before long, he’d gone from novice to passionate craft beer aficionado.

Leaving his career in corporate learning & development behind, Lee decided to make the leap and create the kind of craft beer “space” he’d been looking for – a community brewery that brings people together to experiment and create unique craft beers, and learn more about brewing beer in general. And most importantly, enjoy yourself in the process!

Brewing Great Beer requires a world class brewer, he could have been a Fisherman (ask him about playing basketball with George Clooney) - Thankfully he decided to be a brewer!

Jeff, pictured below, Gloucester native and formerly of Cape Cod Beer, is Hopsters Head Brewer and the inspiration around all our beers, managing the brewing of Hopsters’ hand-crafted ales.

Jeff brings with him more than decade of experience, where he has worked in almost every facet of the craft beer industry. Rowe began his career at Harpoon Brewery, starting as a bottling line operator. Over his seven year tenure at Harpoon, he held positions as a filter technician, maintenance technician, brewer, forklift operator and distribution representative. Most recently, Rowe served as Head Brewer for Cape Cod Beer, Cape Cod’s only craft brewery, where he managed all aspects of production, packaging and recipe development

Jeff is passionate about brewing innovative and delicious craft beers to suite all tastes and styles.   Our three signature beers, Market Square Tripel (Belgian Triple), Imperialist IPA (Imperial IPA) and Endless Vacation (Belgian Farmhouse Ale), available at Hopsters for purchase and at the bar are coming to restaurants and liquor stores soon.  These beers, pictured below, exemplify Jeff’s creativity and commitment to brewing small batch artisanal beers.

Our equipment is state-of-the art and whatever your taste, you can rest assured that any beer brewed at Hopsters will be hand-crafted, all-natural and made with locally-sourced ingredients. We’ve partnered with local food producers for all of our ingredients and charcuterie meats  and make a point of supporting local businesses and other craft breweries.

Most of all, we’re about having fun! Handcrafting beer is a bit of science and a lot of art, so whether you come in with a large group or a smaller circle of friends, we want to create an atmosphere that makes you want to hang out, learn and have fun. Simply put, we want to be the center for craft beer awareness in Boston.
